Flu Shoot Outs this October

Share
The Southwest Utah Public Health Department (SWUPHD) will be holding their annual "Flu Shoot-Out" Emergency Response Exercise this fall at various locations in the five county area.
" We look forward to this event every year," says Paulette Valentine, SWUPHD Emergency Preparedness/Communicable Disease Director. "We've become very good at vaccinating large numbers of people quickly in a way that's convenient for them, and it gives us a chance to test our capacity for providing mass medication in case of an emergency situation like a pandemic or bioterrorism attack.
The SWUPHD Flu Shoot-Outs will have the flu vaccine available in shots, nasal spray (for healthy individuals between the ages of 2 and 49), and high potency (shots) for people aged 65 and older. The flu vaccine is currently recommended for everyone over 6 months old, especially children, the elderly, and anyone with chronic illness or poor immune systems.
Vaccinations will cost $18 ($20 for nasal spray) at these events or have no charge with certain insurances (Medicare, Medicaid, CHIP, SelectHealth, PEHP). The Shoot-Outs are co-sponsored by local city and county governments, along with Dixie Regional Medical Center, Valley View Medical Center, and Dixie State College.
